MANILA, Philippines -- With the increase in the number of kids being brought to schools by their parents on motorcycles, an international road safety advocacy group is set to distribute helmets to selected public school children in the country.

The Global Helmet Vaccine Initiative will distribute hundreds of head gears to students in Metro Manila to ensure that children are protected when they are brought to their campuses by their parents on motorcycle.

At 3 p.m. today, Mr. Greig Craft of GHVI and Education Secretary Mona Valisno will hand over the helmets to some of the students in a simple turn over ceremony at the Department of Education central office in Pasig City.

Aside from Valisno, representatives from Department of Transportation and Communications (DoTC), Asian Development Bank (ADB), Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) Foundation for the Automobile and Society, Asian Injury Foundation Prevention (AIP) Foundation, and Automotive Association of the Philippines (AAP) will also attend the event.

International action star Michelle Yeoh, who has been appointed as Road Safety Goodwill Ambassador, is also expected to grace the turnover rites.
