20-05-2010, 11:53
(VEN) - AIP Foundation launched a new intervention on May 19 targeting parent education and the awareness of child helmet use. A mobile education unit with trained staff visited 20 primary schools during lunch and after-school pick up times in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi to distribute leaflets, speak with parents and answer questions about Decree 34 and child helmet use.
The event was kicked off before Decree 34 came into effect on May 20, 2010. Starting Thursday, adults carrying children over the age of six without a helmet, or a helmet that is buckled improperly, on a motorbike will be fined VND100,000-200,000. In support of Decree 34, AIP Foundation plans to identify areas throughout the country with low child helmet use and use this focused intervention to educate parents.
Additionally, AIP Foundation staff has circulated a letter to the parents of primary school students in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City that are engaged in AIP Foundation programs. The letter requests that parents pledge to put a helmet on their children every day before they get on a motorbike.
