Ho Vinh Trung's story

Ho Vinh Trung

Ho Vinh Trung was injured on November 2007 after a serious road accident, which occurred as he was driving home after a night of drinking with his co-workers.  As Mr. Trung was crossing an intersection, another driver collided with his motorbike.  Mr. Trung was thrown three meters and his head hit a concrete lane separator.  When Mr. Trung arrived at Can Tho hospital, Dr. Huynh Ngoc Thanh gave him a 10% chance of surviving at all.

Today he is alive, but he lives with regret and the extent of his injuries has made him more vulnerable to injury, as he is still missing a portion of his skull.

I wish I had worn a helmet. To watch my family suffer and take care of me… is too hard to see” explains Trung.

His injury required the doctors to remove 30% of his skull and the impacted regions of his brain.  The doctors say he suffers from Hemiparesis, meaning the entire left side of his body is temporarily paralyzed.  Eventually, he will regain the use of his arms and legs but he will never be able to use them at full capacity.  Since the accident, Mr. Trung has had increased difficulty in processing basic spatial and object manipulation tasks.  His coordination has weakened, and his career trajectory is now in jeopardy.

When he spoke to the public during an AIP Foundation public awareness campaign, Mr. Trung cried, “Please wear a helmet, you must wear a helmet.  They protect you and help you avoid being a financial burden on your family.”
