Who we are
Partnerships
Asia Injury Prevention Foundation (AIP Foundation) believes the most effective way to improve road safety in developing countries is to build partnerships with road safety stakeholders, including other nonprofits, the private sector, educational and research institutions, and governments. By combining resources, sharing expertise and collaborating on projects, AIP Foundation’s mission of safe and smart road users in developing countries is carried farther, more fully realized and more sustainable.
Blue Ribbon Employers Council (BREC)
AIP Foundation is a member of the Blue Ribbon Employers Council, formed in September of 2007 by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Vietnam Assistance for the Handicapped (VNAH) and with the financial support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The Council’s mission is to promote employment of people with disabilities in Vietnam. AIP Foundation’s Protec helmet assembly plant employs the physically disabled as a part of its employment policy. We have modified the conveyor belts to accommodate workers in wheelchairs, and work with organizations that support disabled workers to provide a positive working environment for the disabled.
FIA Foundation and the Make Roads Safe Campaign
The FIA Foundation is a leader in global road safety advocacy and a major supporter of road safety research, working closely with international partners including the AIP Foundation to promote road safety and a sustainable approach to mobility. FIA Foundation’s initiatives include the Commission for Global Road Safety and the Make Roads Safe campaign. The Make Roads Safe campaign is calling for a global effort to tackle the worldwide road deaths epidemic, including support for a Decade of Action for Road Safety, modeled on the current UN Decade to Roll Back Malaria.
The Global Helmet Vaccine Initiative (GHVI)
In November 2009, the FIA Foundation joined AIP Foundation and the World Bank Global Road Safety Facility to launch the Global Helmet Vaccine Initiative (GHVI). With the objective of ‘a helmet on every head in the Decade of Action for Road Safety’, GHVI partners work with local NGOs in developing countries around the world to implement AIP Foundation programs. Target countries for 2010 are Cambodia, Vietnam, Nicaragua, Uganda and Senegal.
Safe Kids Worldwide
In April 2004, the United Nations General Assembly resolution A/RES58/289 on “Improving global road safety” invited the WHO, working in close cooperation with the United Nations regional commissions, to act as coordinator on road safety issues across the United Nations system.
With representatives from more than 42 organizations (eleven of which are United Nations agencies), the Collaboration has initiated work on t
he following activities: development of a series of manuals on good practices; creation of a dynamic, global web-based database on road safety legislation; completing and updating of a series of resolutions on road traffic signs and signals adapted in the European region; following up on regional road safety stakeholder meetings; and the establishing an annual World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims. This day is the third Sunday of every November The number of governmental and non-governmental organizations involved and the range of sectors they represent - health, transport, safety - attest to the broad interest that exists for this new effort.
AIP Foundation partnered with UN agencies, the WHO, the World Bank Global Road Safety Facility and other NGOs to write the helmet manual for the UN Road Safety Collaboration. The final report outlines best practices for designing and implementing a helmet program. It is available online here:

Vietnam Helmet Wearing Coalition (VHWC)
VHWC is a group of organizations and businesses dedicated to improving the road traffic safety environment in Vietnam - particularly promoting public awareness on helmet wearing. This group supports AIP Foundation’s public awareness education campaigns, which include television commercials, billboards, other outdoor advertising, road safety events and school-based programs.
Presently, VHWC includes: the Asia Injury Prevention Foundation, the Asian Development Bank, AusAID, the Royal Danish Embassy, the US Embassy, the World Bank, Intel, and Michelin.
